Event Details

An exhibit titled Crystals and Cracked Earth, will be on display at the San Juan College Henderson Fine Arts Center Gallery, February 5 – 26.  An opening reception will be held Friday, February 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The beauty and symmetry of crystals have fascinated people for thousands of years.  Somehow, they seem different from more ordinary matter.  However, most solid objects are made of many tiny interlocking crystals.  It is only occasionally that the individual crystals are large enough to catch our attention.

Earth cracks are sedimentary structures formed as muddy sediment dries and contracts.  Crack formations also occurs in clayey soils as a result of a reduction in water content.

This exhibit is an example of two very fascinating natural occurrences that exist in our environment.  We have taken these structures and captured their formations on clay.  The result can be quite graceful and striking.

The Henderson Fine Arts Center Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  For further information about this exhibit or other Gallery events, contact the Art Gallery at 505-566-3464.
